MXR has just announced the new ‘Timmy’ Overdrive designed in collaboration with veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane. Mr Cochrane was the architect of the original Timmy, a coveted drive pedal that’s got pretty pricey these days on the second-hand market. This new collaboration is good news for budget.conscious fans of the Timmy’s tone.

The MXR Timmy Overdrive is based on the classic boutique hand-built Timmy pedal made by Paul Cochrane. MXR says it has “dynamic range of texture and grit, enhancing the tone of your entire rig without compromising its original character”.

I think this MXR version designed with Paul Cochrane and could be the collaboration of the year. It marries a boutique pedal design  mass production techniques in a way we haven’t seen since Dunlop worked with Jeorge Tripps to re-invigorate Way Huge pedals in recent years.

Budget Boutique

Let’s have a closer look at the features and sounds on offer here. There are several different clipping styles, addressing a range of sound applications. The controls allow you to refine your tone using independent Bass and Treble controls. The Timmy comes in MXR’s mini housing, ideal for cramped pedal boards.
