Morley have announced a new DJ Ashba Skeleton Signature Wah pedal ahead of NAMM 2017.
The ex-Guns and Roses guitarist has – I think it’s fair to say – unique style and this seems to come through with his new signature Morley wah pedal. It certainly is unusual visually, as it has a white paint job and features a weird little DJ Ashba graphic (I think it’s his signature?), which looks a little bit like a graffiti tag. The Skeleton wah glows in the dark, so I’m pretty sure it may have been the dream of the teenage DJ. Most kids love ‘glow in the dark’ stuff, I know I did when I was a kid.
The DJ Ashba Skeleton Wah has the typical switchless electro-optical operation of most Morley wah pedals and it has been tuned to Mr DJ’s ‘preferred’ sound. It features a new Morley MQ2 inductor, allegedly producing a more pronounced wah tone.
There is an internal wah level trim pot to adjust the output volume of the pedal. I would prefer if it was an actual control knob on the outside, as I hate internal pots as you have to get your screwdriver out each time you want to tweak it. There is an easy access battery compartment, so at least changing batteries will be simple enough.
There’s an ‘engaged’ LED to let you know when the wah effect is engaged. I’d imagine that this pedal is sturdily built, as all Morley wah pedals I’ve seen, so it should last. Even if your lead singer throws a hissy fit and storms off stage, you’ll still be able to fend off the angry fans with this lump of cold-rolled steel! If you rock hard like DJ does, this is definitely one to check out.
