Windows and Thunderbolt have had a very slow relationship but thankfully that is starting to change. MOTU are the latest audio interface manufacturer to announce that their latest Windows ASIO driver will also support Thunderbolt. This gives Windows users the fullest access to MOTU’s latest generation of audio interfaces.

For instance the MOTU 1248 audio interface offers 64 in/out channels over USB 2.0 but 128 in/out channels over Thunderbolt with round trip latencies down to 1.4ms. The range also includes the 8M with 8 mic inputs, the 16A with 16×16 TRS analogue and the 112D 112×122 digital I/O with MADI amongst others.

MOTU have completely re-written the driver for Windows and it’s great to see this level of attention being thrown out to Microsoft based users. All these interfaces already have USB 2.0 and AVB running with more regular channel counts and latency levels making them a great choice even if you don’t have Thunderbolt on your current system.

The new driver will be available as a free download very soon.
