MOTU 10pre: Analogue Frontend with AVB Scalability
A flexible interface for studio and live sound environments.
The MOTU 10pre is a versatile rackmount audio interface with 10 mic preamps, AVB networking, and an onboard software mixing system.
MOTU has been a trusted name in professional audio interfaces for over 20 years, and despite joining the budget end of the market with the popular M series, the company has stepped up its game in the professional realm once more.
MOTU 10pre
The 10pre is a 26×28 Thunderbolt/USB 4 audio interface with 24-bit 192 kHz recording capabilities. As the name suggests, there are 10 XLR preamp inputs, each offering 74 dB of gain and Hi-Z guitar input for easy re-amping. What’s more, there is a pair of inserts for adding outboard gear to your DAW workflow and eight DC-coupled balanced TRS outputs, which can send CV signals.
On the digital side, the ADAT I/O gives you 16 channels at 48 kHz or 8 channels at 96 kHz with SMUX. Meanwhile, the AVB networking system allows extremely high channel counts at low latency, even with long cable runs of up to 100 meters. The 10pre allows up to 128 channels sent and 128 received from the network, and you can daisy chain multiple 10pre, 848, and 16A units.

Besides the main TFT display on the front panel, you can access a complete overview and manage your signal routing from the CueMix 64-input, 32-bus mixer with EQ and compression per channel. This allows the 10pre to be used as a standalone mixer, with remote control over Wi-Fi via the CueMix Pro app for macOS, Windows, and iOS.
In addition, the 10pre offers control room functions like talkback, as well as monitor groups and switching, so it’s at home in any recording studio situation. Overall, the 10pre is an impressive interface with an extensive analogue frontend and networking scalability.
