Subscribe to the IK Multimedia newsletter and Father Christmas will gift you a copy of Memory-V based on the Memorymoog polysynth.

Not a bad little virtual synthesizer to get for nothing. It’s part of the IK Multimedia Syntronik collection of sample-based classic emulations. The Memory-V is made up of about 5GB of samples, taken from a Memorymoog in pristine condition and presented in a simplified but good-looking GUI with a good range of parameters to play with.

They sampled single oscillators and combinations of oscillators including unison stacks and sync to give a broad and versatile range of possibilities. It comes with 148 presets and 4 multis to give you a flavour of how this machine can sound. IK’s DRIFT technology pushes the emulations outside of the perfection of sampling for some very pleasing and natural-sounding variation.

To run Memory-V you have on install Syntronik Free which also comes with a bundle of sounds from some of the 38 synths you get in the full version. And you get a whole load of effects and, of course, the option to buy more sounds or the whole bundle through the in-built store. Syntronik Free is pretty decent by itself.

I’d love to say the process of obtaining Memory-V is simple and seamless but IK makes you jump through all sorts of annoying hoops to get to the point where you can play the sounds. But hey, it’s free and worth the trouble.

Memory-V is usually 50 quid to buy and the promotion runs from the 16th-30th December so head over the IK Multimedia website to nab your copy.
