Big update to the LFE module that brings additional LFOs and envelopes to Sequential synthesizers and more; now supports the new Prophets.

Low Frequency Expander

If you ever felt that your OB-6 or Prophet synthesizer was lacking in the modulation department then the LFE by Yorick Tech is here to fill that hole. The LFE is styled and programmed to match those particular synths and looks like a proper piece of hardware although it should be stressed that this will work with any synthesizer that can be controlled by CC MIDI messages.

So it’s a modulation generator that gives you hardware control over 3 LFOs and a 6-stage envelope generator that can be routed over MIDI to whatever synthesizer or device you wish to control. You can create complex waveforms and use a matrix system to route velocity, key, aftertouch, mod wheel or CV in to about 50 destinations in your synth. It can also be configured as a 2 to 16-step modulation sequencer.

It’s an ideal box for synths that are light on the modulation side like the Korg Prologue or Nord Wave 2.

New in 2.0

In the new firmware version they’ve included direct support for the new Rev 4 Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 as well as adding the Moog Voyager to the list of inbuilt supported synths. Synth patch names can now be pulled into the LFE from the synth. Polychaining is now supported. Release Aftertouch allows you to fix an aftertouch value just before releasing the last note and hold that value until the next note is played.

Expand your synth

The LFE is definitely an interesting way of developing an existing synth without having to delve into the realms of a computer. It’s hands-on, integrated and beautifully made. While it can run via CC numbers it seems to me to be of the greatest advantage with properly supported synthesizers.

The LFE is available in OB-6 or Prophet colours. Price for the basic unit is £540; walnut ends £50; CV in and out, either 1/4” or 1/8” sockets £40. Postage and insurance charged at cost. You will need a standard 9V power supply.
