KMA Machines PYLON: Advanced Transformer Boost Noise Gate
More than just a noise gate
The KMA Machines PYLON not only has an ultra-fast gate with a smooth trigger, but also has an integrated boost section, a relay-based channel switcher for your amplifier, and even an integrated audio transformer.
The old noise problem
When you add drive, dirt, etc. to your signal, the compromise is always noise. Therefore, many players turn to Noise Gates to tame these unwanted noises. Unlike many other noise gates on the market, the new KMA Machines PYLON ATB Noise Gate not only tries to push back the hordes of hissing and hum, but also to help you reach the full potential of your rig.

ATB stands for Advanced Transformer Boost Noise Gate. This makes it clear that we are not dealing with an ordinary noise gate here. It is a versatile, even multifunctional pedal. Because it combines noise gate, booster, transformer sound and more.
In order to get such background noise under control, PYLON’s Noise Gate is based on a high-quality Blackmer VCA and offers particularly fast and precise behaviour.
You can use two different modes to match the mode of action to your game. HIGH mode ensures softly fading tones, while LOW mode closes super fast. Ideal for Palm Mutes and Tchugging a la Ola Englund. As soon as the gate grips, the colour of the LED changes from white to blue.
With a gain of up to 30 dB, the integrated boost circuit can help fine-tune your sound. But it can also serve as a damping element. The CUT control tightens the bass and provides a mid-emphasised and cutting lead sound when you push the preamplifier of the amplifier into saturation. By choosing between three different modes for the power on and off state of the boost, you have many possibilities to use it.
Transformer on board
The use of transformers in pro audio devices is nothing new. While they basically help to reduce the impedance of low-level unbalanced signals, e.g. from a guitar or a bass, easy to adjust, the audio-grade transformer from PYLON also gives additional warmth.
KMA claims: “Your guitars, synthesizers or just everything you send through the pedal has never sounded so solid. It gives more “weight” and improves core sound in a much finer way and without the phase problems that can occur when using EQ alone!”
As usual with KMA Machines, some impressive details have been packed into the pedal. The EXT Trigger Input enables gate and bypass control from external sources. A relay-based channel output switches the gain channel of your amplifier synchronously with the pedal if desired.
The FX loop provides flexibility in the signal chain and allows connection in the 4-cable method. Internally installed is a ground lift control, the soft switching foot switch is also relay-based, with selectable gate/boost switching modes.
The KMA Machines PYLON is made in Berlin and costs 189 euros*.
