Kali Audio introduces the IN-5 active nearfield monitors
Kali Audio has introduced the IN-5 powered nearfield monitor speakers. The IN-8 shares many concepts of its larger sibling IN-8, but in a more compact package designed for smaller rooms.

Kali Audio has quickly made a name for itself in the budget monitor market. Since its formation in 2018, the company has successfully introduced the LP series 2-way monitors, WS-12 subwoofer and the IN-8, a 3-way monitor speaker with coaxial midrange and high frequency drivers. A smaller model in the IN series (“Project Independence”) was only a matter of time, and here it is.
The new IN-5 is based on the same ideas as the IN-8. It features a 5″ woofer, whose frequency response extends down to 39 Hz. The 1″ textile dome tweeter is located in the center of the 4″ midrange speaker, which also acts as a waveguide. According to Kali Audio, this coaxial design ensures excellent spatial imaging and transparency, as the speakers act as a point source.
The IN-5 is a Class-D tri-amped system with 160 watts of power. 80 watts go to the woofer, while the midrange and HF drivers each receive 40 watts. The crossover frequencies are at 280 Hz and 2800 Hz. According to Kali Audio, the IN-5 is intended for a recommended listening distance of 0.2–2.2 meters, as opposed to 1–2.8 meters for the larger IN-8.
Despite the company’s short history, Kali Audio’s affordable speakers are receiving many favorable reviews. The 3-way IN-5 is the logical next step, and it, too, is bound to become a major player in its price range very quickly.
