Kali Audio LP-6 and LP-8 2nd Wave

After introducing the IN-8 2nd Wave last spring, Kali Audio has now turned its attention to the affordable LP series and announced the 2nd wave of LP-6 and LP-8 studio monitors. According to the Californian manufacturer, they spent three years improving upon the original design.

While the active 2-way monitors retain their overall appearance and many core features like the waveguide technology, bass reflex system and oversized woofer magnets, they’ve been improved internally in many ways. The most important upgrade is the new Class-D amp module, which generates a whopping 12 dB less self noise than the previous model, according to Kali Audio. That’s a significant number and the effect should be quite noticeable (or better yet, unnoticeable) in real life. At the same time, Kali Audio has increased the input sensitivity by 3 dB.

The manufacturer has also readjusted the tweeters for an even smoother high frequency reproduction, and updated the boundary EQs to provide more practical settings. There’s also a new preset for positioning the speakers on desktop stands.

Like the IN-8, the 2nd wave LP series gets upgraded membranes, which use less material and are therefore lighter. Kali Audio says that this improves the speakers’ response time and transient reproduction. Last but not least, the cabinet structure has been redesigned for improved reliability.

Those are some really nice upgrades, which will make the Kali Audio LP series an even more attractive option in its price range. The significantly lower noise level alone is a big improvement over the previous generation.
