So I did a few articles a while back on free amp simulator software and Ignite Amps featured pretty heavily in those features. I really like their software, as you may have guessed if you read those articles. Well now they have gone and released a completely free Pultec EQ simulation on VST and AU formats on both Mac and PC.
The PTEq-X is very nicely laid out and the whole interface is very clean with a classic look which is similar to the original hardware. The company have provided it for free and don’t ask for any of your personal information, so kudos for that!
It doesn’t feature a ton of presets, which I think is good as it encourages you to actually use your ears and tweak it yourself. The model is based around three separate EQs and these were originally based upon old valve technology using and you can choose from the drop down menu for valve gain which of these you would like to use, either an ECC81, ECC82, ECC83 or ECC84 tubes.
The EQ is setup into three separate sections MQ-5, PEQ1A and the HL3C filter.
The plugin is available in 32 bit and 64 bit versions on all major formats, so should plug into most major DAWs and on both platforms Mac and PC from here
My advice is download and play with it. Which is exactly what I am doing myself. My first impressions are really good and I look forward to spending a few weeks playing with this new plugin on my tracks.
For me personally if you are into home recording and especially if you are a guitar or bass player then Ignite Amps are a great company for freeware and I cannot fault them, considering thatchy literally give it away fro free.
Watch the demo video below for a run through of all the basic features and give it a try in your DAW of choice.
