Fender has just released the last model of the Parallel Universe Volume II for 2020. Will the Tele Mágico put on a show so enticing that you’ll put in an order for one?
Fender Parallel Universe Volume II Tele Mágico
A limited edition Thinline Telecaster, the Tele Mágico was designed in collaboration with Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Ron Thorn. With a pair of gold foil pickups on a pearloid scratch plate, it certainly has plenty of sparkle and so may appeal to those who like a bit of bling. The Tele Mágico has a flame maple neck paired with a swamp ash body, and is available finished in either a Trans Daphne Blue or Trans Surf Green gloss urethane.
This model has an almost excessive amount of pearloid, with binding, block inlays, tuning pegs, custom pickup rings and the Cabronita pickguard all glittering and sparkling away. Now that may or may not be your thing, but I think it will appeal to The Good Ol’ Boys out there. Don’t get me wrong, this guitar has its place – especially if you like tassels on your jacket! But it does have a couple of interesting little features, like a custom neck profile that transitions from a V to a C-shape. This model offers something a little different and isn’t just all about the looks. The three-saddle bridge should get you the desired twang that you’d expect from a T-style guitar.
I’m not a massive fan of the overall aesthetic here. I suspect it may be a little bit niche for most tastes outside of the USA. But it is a limited edition so I’m sure it will sell. It would be a hard pass from me if I saw it hanging on the wall of my local shop though…
