Fender Announces 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection
75 years of the Precision Bass celebrated with three new models

The original electric bass is celebrating its birthday! And to mark the occasion, Fender is introducing the 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection. This includes three limited-edition models: the Vintage II 1951 Precision Bass, the 75th Anniversary American PJ, and the Player II Precision Bass. Fender has also teamed up with several renowned bassists to release a video series dedicated to the Precision Bass.

How it all began
The year is 1951. Leo Fender had unleashed nothing less than a revolution with the Telecaster a year earlier. But Fender also had his eye on the bass players. Because no matter how large double basses might be, acoustically, they stood no chance in the popular big bands of the time. Fender developed the Precision Bass, and the rest is history!
The Birth of Electric Low-End
This bass guitar features, for the first time, a double-cutaway body shape that would reappear a few years later in the most famous guitar in music history, the Stratocaster. The two horns allow the body to balance the heavy neck more effectively than the single-cutaway shape of the Telecaster could.
Fender chose the name “Precision” simply because, before the Precision Bass, there were virtually no fretted electric basses, which made intonation many times more precise than on fretless double bass models.
The Jazz Bass followed in 1960, and since then, the bass world has been divided into two camps, both aesthetically and sonically . There are the P-Bass purists, who swear by its powerful low end, and the Jazz Bass fans, who prefer its more mid-focused sound. The 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection pays tribute to the P-Bass and offers three models for its fans.
75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection: Vintage II 1951 Precision Bass
This model from the 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection is all about going “back to the roots!” Fender has fitted a swamp ash body with a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, which, combined with the black phenolic resin pickguard, perfectly captures that early fifties butterscotch vibe. The neck (1951 “U” profile) and maple fretboard complete the look.
The Vintage II 1951 Precision Bass is so faithful to the original that it even comes without a split-coil pickup. Fender has opted for a 75th Anniversary 1951 single-coil Precision Bass here, complete with volume and tone controls.
The hardware includes a Pure Vintage 2 Saddle Precision Bass bridge with serial-numbered fiber saddles and open-gear Pure Vintage reverse tuners. You can get the Vintage II 1951 Precision Bass for $2958/£2599€2999 at Thomann. A vintage-style tweed case with a crushed red lining is included.
75th Anniversary American PJ and Player II Precision Bass
For those who don’t need something quite so vintage, the 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection offers two other P-Bass models. First, there’s the 75th Anniversary American PJ. Priced similarly to the ’51 model, it has a look and features based on later releases.
Flamed Maple
Alder body with an ultra-chic top made of flamed maple and a two-color sunburst finish: this is a whole lot more visually extravagant.
Here too, the neck (1963 “C” profile) and fingerboard are made of maple, with 20 medium-jumbo frets, a bone nut, and a combination of a 75th Anniversary V-Mod II Jazz Bass single-coil at the bridge and a 75th Anniversary V-Mod II Precision Bass split-coil in the middle position.

Diamond Dust Sparkle
There’s also a slightly more affordable model in the 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Collection: the 75th Anniversary Player II Precision Bass.
This model comes in a stylish “Diamond Dust Sparkle” finish, with a Thunderbolt Precision Bass split-coil pickup and open-gear tuners. Like the PJ model, it has a 9.5-inch fretboard radius.
