FabFilter has announced that Pro-L2, the next version of its highly regarded limiter plug-in, is coming today. The company published an overview video, available below, to promote the release. There’s also the screenshot above, giving us a glimpse at the new plug-in.
Several new features have been added to what already was a complete and technically adept limiter. Notably, true peak limiting, multi-channel audio, and up to x32 oversampling are making their appearances; as well as a new 1:1 mode with auto gain compensation to attenuate output with the increase in gain.
Four new limiter styles are available, too – Modern, Aggressive, Bus, and Safe. The Loudness metering section has been expanded and the graphical display has been redesigned.
Overall, these are sensible additions that expand Pro-L’s functionality in meaningful ways, without diverting the limiter from its original formula or dumbing it down in some way. The upgrades certainly warrant a bump in the version number, and FabFilter has clearly put in work improving its coveted mastering limiter. We imagine plenty of FabFilter users will be happy to see this one make the rounds!
