Brainworx bx_masterdesk True Peak is about reimaging a well-known mastering plug-in from 2018. The goal is offering a “high-end analog mastering system” inside a single plug-in that’s reasonably easy to use. I wouldn’t doubt Brainworx when it comes to promises like these.
Brainworx bx_masterdesk True Peak
Brainworx considers its bx_mastedesk plug-in one of its most successful releases. It is a viable shot at containing an analog-inspired mastering suite inside a single plug-in. It’s not unlike Slate Digital’s FG-X mastering limiter which I still like a lot, but I’m more of an iZotope guy these days.
Anyway, bx_masterdesk True Peak offers a new interface and revised algorithms but stays focused on fast and intuitive workflow. It also implements a user-requested feature: the limiting algorithm from bx_limiter True Peak. With this in place, the input and output meters precisely indicate true peak levels.
Additionally, the Brainworx TMT (Tolerance Modeling Technology) engine now offers switchable analog and digital modes. Finally, a Mix knob is present to dial-in parallel processing.
The mastering process can be fully manual or structured in three straightforward steps – Volume, Foundation, and Tone. There are also parameters for de-essing, compression, and stereo width. M/S processing is also an option. All in all, this is a professional limiter / mastering tool and a competent update to an already solid product.
Price and availability
Until July 10 2022, you can get the plug-in for USD 150 down from USD 300. Those who own the previous version pay USD 20 to upgrade. You also get bx_masterdesk True Peak via several subscription options.
The software is available in 64-bit AU, AAX (DSP / Native / AudioSuite), VST2, and VST3 formats for macOS (10.11 to 12) and Windows (8 to 11). A free demo version and manual can be downloaded from the developer’s website.
