Ed Sheeran has used looper pedals for well over a decade. Now, along with HeadRush and his new company ITA Intime, fans will be able to sample two new looper pedals. Will they be worth it or has Ed just been thinking out loud?
Ed Sheeran Looper Pedals
Since his debut album in 2011, Ed Sheeran has wowed crowds with his ability to become a one-man band in just a few minutes. However, back in his busking days, Ed was no stranger to using looper pedals to help master his craft. In his new venture with ITA Intime Audio and HeadRush, we’ll see two lopper pedals bespoke to the artist, named after two of his albums.
Looper +
The Ed Sheeran Looper + is a portable dual-track pedal. Players benefit from an LCD colour display, aluminium pedals and an additional LED loop status ring. Further hardware includes 32-bit audio and a custom DSP thanks to HeadRush.
Aside from physical stuff, the Looper + has some pretty cool features that’ll be welcomed by gigging guitarists and vocalists. For instance, you can power this looper pedal via either x4 AA batteries, a 9v power supply or via USB connection. This means you can perform virtually anywhere, giving players plenty of options.
Furthermore, this Ed Sheeran looper houses up to 128 loops and allows you to store over 3-hours of audio. What’s also cool is that you’re able to import and export audio loops via USB connection.
Inputs and outputs are readily available. You’d have hoped, considering that this is aimed at musicians on the move between the streets and stadiums. Accordingly, there’s a footswitch output allowing you to work with existing pedals. Moreover, you’ll find a 3.5mm MIDI and XLR microphone input for vocals.
Helping musicians plug in and play, there are also left and right mono outputs for external speakers and PA systems.

This Ed Sheeran looper is readily available from Thomann and will set you back $318.00 / €349,00 / £304.00. Steep? Perhaps. But you have to consider that this could be the only portable looper you’ll ever need.
Looper X
Secondly, this new Ed Sheeran looper is a complete looper workstation. This Looper X, named after the 2014 No.1 album, features the artist’s powerful multi-track looping workflow and stadium-grade aluminium pedals.
Aiding your live music, you get a suite of multi-effects and class-leading audio quality powered by HeadRush. We’re told that this will take your looping to the next level.
Thankfully, there’s a high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen display which will help you visualise in real time unlimited loop lengths with up to 99 layers per track. Helping you utilise these capabilities is a 360-degree navigation wheel.
Similarly, aimed at musicians wanting to either record and or perform, there’s a built-in chromatic tuner, metronome and over 300 drum loops. Feel free to use all of those drum loops with your guitar or vocals as you can store over 7-hours of loops and audio.
External hardware on the Looper X takes things up a level compared to a standard looper. Extra welcome features include:

Currently, we’re unaware of when this Looper X pedal will be available from Thomann. Although we do know that it’ll cost $1275.00 / €1.399,00 / £1219.00. Considering the uses and features, it is a fee worth paying. However, I’d personally go for the Looper + unless you’re regularly doing solo recording in the studio.
