According to Devious Machines, Pitch Monster is a granular processor, pitch shifter, vocoder and harmonizer. It features three types of processing – granular, formant and vocode – each of which can be used in three modes: normal, MIDI and chord.

In chord mode, you can create chords with up to eight notes on the on-screen keyboard. There are eight slots for chords, which can be saved and recalled. The plug-in also has a MIDI learn mode for creating chords, and you can copy and paste chords between slots, and even between instances of the plug-in.

MIDI mode allows you to use MIDI data from your DAW or a MIDI keyboard to play the plug-in. In addition to notes, Pitch Monster supports pitch shift and glide. In MIDI mode, the plug-in outputs sound only when a key is pressed, which lets you create new melodies from the original input signal.

Eight voices of polyphony

Pitch Monster has 8 voices of polyphony. However, the underlying engine operates with 64 voices, which allows you to stack up to eight layers of voices in unison. These voice stacks can be spread out in pitch and time, for a fatter or more diffuse sound. The plug-in also features dual high pass and low pass filters for shaping the sound.

Despite Pitch Monster’s many capabilites and engines, the interface looks pretty straight-forward and easy to use. I can definitely see this plug-in making an impact, seeing how popular warped voices are right now. With Pitch Monster, you’ll have another interesting and capable vocal processor in your vocal mangling arsenal, alongside other vocal benders like Antares Auto-Tune EFX+ or iZotope Vocal Synth 2.
