Devious Machines’ newest multi-effects plug-in Infiltrator looks like a sound designer’s dream. Designed to be a deep multi-effect that’s capable of even the most extreme transformations, Infiltrator lets you choose from a huge selection of effects, which can then be controlled using an equally well-equipped modulation section.

The plug-in offers ten effect modules arranged in a series, which you can fill with your choice of 28 effects. As the name ‘Infiltrator’ suggests, there are no less than 12 different high pass, low pass and band pass filters, some of which were modeled after famous synths such as the SH-101 and MS20. The palette also includes comb and formant filters, a frequency shifter, a ring modulator, FM, a phaser and a pitch shifter. There’s also a looper, a delay, a couple of reverbs and an overdrive.

Then, there’s the modulation section, and this is where the fun really starts. Every slot can be controlled using the curve editor, which lets you define rhythmic modulations or envelopes with various trigger options (including MIDI). There are eight preset curve shapes, and you can create your own or use the randomizer. The effects can also react to the audio input signal. With pitch snapping, Euclidean rhythms and a swing setting, Infiltrator allows you to create modulations that fit perfectly within your track.

Infiltrator also offers a 32-step sequencer that lets you trigger any combination of effects on any given step. This allows you to play and sequence the effects like an instrument. From subtle modulation to an “all-out FX firefight”, as Devious Machines puts it, Infiltrator’s rhythmic modulation and sequencing capabilities are what sets this plug-in apart.

What’s more? There are four macro controls, which you can map to any parameter to create your own custom controls. These can of course be automated in your DAW. Infiltrator’s Master section offers a selection of overdrives and compressors for extra punch. And the plug-in comes with 750 presets, including several artist banks designed by renowned electronic music artists.

Price and compatibility

Devious Machines Infiltrator is now available for GBP 69 for a limited time. The regular price will be GBP 99.

The plug-in requires macOS 10.7 or higher or Windows 7 or higher. It’s available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX formats.
