Carl Martin Atlantic Chorus: Boosting the Volume to solve an old problem
The new Carl Martin Atlantic Chorus pedal comes in a neat shade of blue and has all the controls you need. Oh, and then there’s a Volume control. On a chorus?
Carl Martin Atlantic Chorus
You don’t really associate chorus pedals with having a Level or Volume control. Normally they sport a rate and a depth knob. The new Carl Martin Atlantic Chorus pedal has its own dedicated Level control so that you can boost your signal to help combat any perceived volume loss when the effect is kicked in.
The pedal also has the Rate (this blends vibrato into the effect), Depth (the amount of the effect) and Speed controls, as you’d expect. The latter allows you to dial in the speed of the modulation effect. All pretty much standard for a chorus pedal.
With the top mounted jack input/output, this pedal will play well on most pedalboards. It will run from an external 9-Volt DC power supply that’s plugged into a socket mounted on the top edge.
A ‘Fast Click’ footswitch is used to engage the effect, with a blue LED letting you know when it is turned on. We expect the new Carl Martin Atlantic Chorus to come in at under GBP 100, but no UK price has been confirmed as yet. It all looks like a pretty neat chorus pedal to me, the demo video below will give you an idea of exactly what it can do. If you’re shopping around for a decently priced chorus pedal, give it a watch.
If you want the deluxe chorus pedal package, check out the recent MXR EVH5150. But if you want to go the whole modulation hog, this is the pedal you should to be salivating over.
