The Korg ARP Odyssey FS KIT

Has it been over six years since Korg’s ARP Odyssey was first glimpsed? Boy, does time fly!

Korg’s approach to venerating their analogue legacy, and that of ARP too, has been nothing short of exemplary. The hardware reissues of the ARP 2600, Korg 700S and ARP Odyssey were highly praised. They’ve even catered for those on smaller budgets with mini (M) versions. Now, as they did with the MS-20 a few years ago, they have released the ARP Odyssey FS Kit. You will be able to purchase the kit and assemble the boards, keyboard and case yourself. Each kit will come with its own unique serial number plate. This means your Odyssey Kit may well become a sought after collectors item in years to come.

Put The Soldering Iron Away

The kit comes in a number of sections with no soldering skills required. This means that the kit will appeal to a wide audience and not just those who love the smell of flux and burnt fingertips in the morning! The front panel features the classic ARP Odyssey Rev.3 design of orange legend on black. You may well want to redecorate this yourself. The most complicated items of assembly will involve the connecting of some cables between boards. All faders and switches are in place. Fit the caps once they’re mounted in place. This kit should present a fun challenge to beginners and experienced synthesists alike.

Feature Set

As for its features, it is identical to the factory built models. No compromises are made with the kit version. Odyssey fans and aficionados will be aware of the three varying filter types used during the Odyssey’s life. As with the factory models, all three filters are available on the kit model too. You get the full Odyssey experience with the added bonus of being able to say, “I built that!”

More Information

The strictly limited Korg ARP Odyssey Kit is available from March. Korg haven’t said how many they intend to produce. It will have an RRP of €1,899/£1,699

One response to “Build Your Own ARP! – Korg Launch the ARP Odyssey FS Kit”

I think one of the main frustrations I have with Korg is the fact that their FS range of synths are always limited edition. And when they do then release a FS version, they price it like this! The normal smaller ARP is approx £665, this is going to be approx £1699. So over £1000 just for standard sized keys, and you have to build it yourself!?

No doubt they’ll sell all of them 🙂
