Beatskillz new “Mix Phattener” Plugin, SLAM PRO, launched
New all-in-one enhancement mixing and mastering plugin
Indian plugin developers BeatSkillz are labelling Slam Pro as a “Mix Phattener” plugin. This new plugin borrows some seen-before features and programming from their successful Slam Dawg plugin, and is described as a “beat phattener”. Whilst all-in-one plugins that do a variety of technical enhancements under the GUI aren’t usually my thing, this does look like a very well-presented plugin.

It isn’t clear exactly what Slam Pro is doing on a technical level, whether it’s just easy-to-use EQ and dynamics processing or their own psychoacoustic algorithms, but the info suggests the latter. There are some great EQ-style controls for the low-end and high frequencies in your mix. There a 3 ‘bass’ controls suitably called ‘Sub,’ ‘Thump’ and ‘Boom’, and 3 high-frequency positions for ‘AIRZ’.
Slam Pro also offers 4 types of compression, but are described as ‘Pop’ compression colours only. There’s a saturation section which provides 3 flavours of ‘Heat’ and a limiter called ‘Crush’. The stereo expander looks quite interesting, with separate controls over 2 frequency bandwidths via a fader so that you don’t over-widen those all important bass frequencies.
There’s some nice features here and the plugin altogether looks very well designed with a great GUI. It would be great to hear a demonstration of the plugin and see what it can really do. Using words such as ‘phattener’ and ‘Slam’ are cool, but does this mean it’s only useful for certain genres? That’s not necessarily a bad thing either, as some tools are better for certain jobs. I think this looks like a great product and I am keen to hear it, but worry that it’s another less-than-professional one-stop-shop for amateur producers.

A free trial can be downloaded and they are running an introductory offer until the end of September 2016 of 79 USD. New owners of Slam Pro will also receive the original Slam Dawg completely free. This is clearly a great buy, although existing owners of Slam Dawg apparently don’t receive a special offer as BeatSkillz regard these as two separate products.
Regular price for Slam Pro will be 149 USD. Slam Dawg is currently 49 USD, but will also rise to 99 USD at the end of the month.
