AJH Synth Matrix VCF: The Most Versatile Eurorack Filter Ever?
Oberheim Matrix-Style Filter Module with 16 Modes

AJH Synth will unveil the new Matrix VCF analog filter module at Superbooth next week. Based on the powerful multi-mode filter of the Oberheim Matrix-12, Matrix VCF has a couple of cool tricks up its sleeve!
AJH Synth Matrix VCF
AJH Synth says they’ve been working on the new Matrix VCF for two years. And the developers didn’t stop at cloning the famous Matrix-12 filter, which is already hugely flexible with 15 different modes. Matrix VCF not only adds an extra mode for a total of 16, but also comes with a built-in VCA and a switch intriguingly labeled “P-Vox”. What’s it all about?

According to AJH Synth, the circuitry is based on the Oberheim Matrix-12 design. The audio signal path is fully analog. In addition to the 15 filter modes of the Matrix-12, including various low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch characteristics, the module offers a 16th mode: a 4-pole all-pass filter and phaser. You can switch between modes manually or via CV, with 16 LEDs providing instant visual feedback.
These 16 modes are available:
- Four Pole Band Pass
- Three Pole High Pass combined with One Pole Low Pass
- Three Pole All Pass combined with One Pole Low Pass
- Two Pole Notch combined with One Pole Low Pass
- Two Pole Low Pass
- Four Pole All Pass (Phaser)
- Four Pole Low Pass

- Three Pole All Pass
- Two Pole Notch

- One Pole High Pass
But that’s not all. Using the aforementioned P-Vox switch, you can activate a highly resonant distortion circuit inspired by the notoriously gritty filter of the Formanta Polivoks. This completely transforms the sonic characteristics of the filter, effectively giving you an extra 16 modes for a total of 32.
In addition to two CV inputs for the filter frequency (V/Oct, FCV), the module offers the 1/3 and 2/3 inputs from the company’s Transistor Ladder Filter module that emulate the Minimoog’s key-tracking switches. The resonance is also CV-controllable. In addition, Matrix VCF offers a built-in VCA in the output stage. By patching an envelope or LFO into its input, you can create a complete synth voice using only three modules (oscillator, Matrix VCF, modulator).
Price and Availability
AJH Synth Matrix VCF is now in production and will be available soon for £310 with a choice of black or silver front panels.

nice.
I hope someone ( maybe Tom & others) , do a redux of the expander or M12. it’s a lovely sounding synth.
