Today, German audio force ADAM Audio unveiled a pair of premium studio headphones – the ADAM Audio Studio Pro SP-5. Having built a reputation in professional studio monitoring, ADAM Audio is building on this expertise to deliver a high-end closed-back headset with a balanced frequency response, ranging between 8 Hz to 38 kHz. The sound character is described as “analytical” and suitable for professional monitoring & mixing.
The SP-5 uses S-LOGIC technology from fellow German brand Ultrasone, incorporated in the latter’s open-back PRO 1480i studio headphones. With this technology, the sound transducers are spatially arranged in such a way that the radiated sound communicates with the natural shape of the ear chamber and its specific acoustics before entering the ear canal.
The result, says Ultrasone, is a more natural sound with a realistic spatial image that’s similar to professionally designed high-end stereo speakers. This is said to make mixing easier than with a headset pointing directly into the ear canal. The sound transducers were subjected to an intensive revoicing process and tuned by the specialist technicians of ADAM Audio to meet the SP-5’s goals.
ADAM Audio says that another advantage of the S-LOGIC technology is the subjective perceived volume, which allegedly boosts the subjectively experienced volume at a low sound pressure levels to reduce ear fatigue. Thus, the SP-5 might be a good option for extended mixing sessions. ADAM says it also took great care to ensure that the headphones’ shape delivers high wearing comfort over long periods of time. Time will tell!
Price and availability
The ADAM Audio Studio Pro SP-5 is available now at an RRP of EUR 549. These are premium headphones, so the pricing makes sense and it’s actually quite reasonable for the category.
