Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream X2: How Beautiful Is This Yamaha CS-50-Inspired Custom Synth?
What do you get when you combine three beautiful synthesizers and two effects units in a single custom cabinet? Why, Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream, of course.
Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream X2
Nobody makes instruments like Love Hultén. As much of an artist as an industrial designer, Hultén reimagines existing instruments into new configurations, often with custom-created panels that help tie those disparate original products into a single and unified vision.

That’s what’s happening with the latest from the – I’m going to go ahead and say it – genius, which we’re calling Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream because we need something for Google to search for and it sort of encapsulates what’s happening here.
Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream X2: The Synths
The “beasty setup,” as Hultén describes it in a post on his Instagram, was made custom for a client and was inspired by the Yamaha CS-50, part of the same analog synthesizer family that includes the CS-80.
The CS influence is strongest in the choice of main sound generators, which come in the form of a pair of Deckard’s Dream units from Black Corporation. These famously clone the CS-80. (Black Corp also reposted Hultén’s creation, calling it “another amazing work.”)
To really bring out the best of the Deckards, you need an MPE-equipped controller, so why not go for the best: Expressive E Osmose. You can see the Osmose there as the main keyboard.
Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream X2: The Effects
The presence of two dreamy effects units in the Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream says to me that this is not just CS-50-inspired, but Vangelis Blade Runner soundtrack-inspired. Think big reverb washes and woozy atmosphere. For that, there’s a Meris Mercury 7 reverb pedal plus a Soma Cosmos drifting memory station looper.
You have to look hard to see the effects units, as they’ve been taken apart and their controls given an overhaul with new sliders to match the Deckard’s Dreams, plus colorful rocker switches that recall the CS series. (You can also see rocker switches on the Osmose to the left of the keybed.)
Finally, an oscilloscope – one of Love Hultén’s signature touches – is mounted on a pedestal, giving the whole piece a touch of retro charm.
Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream X2: Pricing and Availability
Given that Love Hultén Deckard’s Dream is a custom creation, we don’t know how much it cost. You’d have to get in touch with Hultén for a quote.
You can buy all of the devices contained inside though – minus the rocker switches, of course.
