The Tool Without A Name can be used for mastering stereo files or mixing up to 32 stems using its powerful three-pronged processing engine. First, the analysis engine takes a reading of your stems and extracts roughly 300 data points to work from. Next, the mixing and mastering engine uses multichannel multiband dynamics, spectral sidechaining, tape saturation, and mid-side processing, as well as brickwall limiting.
And lastly, the preset mapping engine acts as the middleman, connecting the analysis data to the appropriate mixing and mastering processing parameters. The workflow is simple; you just drop the stem files into the app and then use the ingeniously designed little interface to categorize and pan each file.
There are five different categories, including drums, bass, backing, lead, and aux, each with individual metering, mute, solo, gain, and processing amount controls. Meanwhile, each of the Mix, Master, and Cleanup modules has its own respective parameter set and can be individually bypassed should you need to A/B any one of these processes.
As you explore the preset collection, which will be expanded in October with the official release, you can apply different characteristic approaches to the mixing and mastering process of your song. Overall, this is an exciting solution because it allows you to work fast, and you still have a good deal of under-the-hood control to customize your final product.
In addition, there are some truly innovative features, like the Cleanup module’s frequency control, which performs a similar function to the Wavesfactory Trackspacer plugin by reducing any clashing frequencies in your mix. As with most of Tim Exile’s software, you get a decent amount of value for money, and the possibility of added features in future updates is certainly an exciting prospect.
