Today’s music productions often rely heavily on creative applications of distortion, saturation, and clipping. And 2B Played’s Clipped XT is perfectly suited to implement these effects. The plug-in is a powerful distortion and clipping tool, designed with harder styles of dance music in mind.

But that doesn’t mean you should use the 2B Played Clipped XT exclusively for dance music. Obviously, a plug-in like this will work perfectly fine on just about anything you want to make edgier sounding. String-instruments, vocals, synths, and everything else is all fair game. The user interface is pure substance over style, with no-nonsense knobs clearly labeled according to their specific functionality.

You get 4 types of filters and 3 kinds of distortion, along with Clip Control (some sort of limiter, I presume). There’s an LP/HP filter section, a Peak EQ, a Shelf EQ, and Distortion (with Input, Boost, and Dry/Wet controls). Next, you have an ADSR envelope tied to the input signal, and the bottom sees additional distortion parameters like Symmetry, Sym Boost, Shaper, an LP Out filter, and an Output volume control.

The Sym Boost separates the distortion symmetry from the signal, making for a more unique-sounding distortion, with even rougher edges. The Shaper parameter is, of course, a waveshaper meant for brutal all-out digital distortion.

The plug-in ships with a raw kick drum sample and 50 presets for you to try on the included sample, or anything else you feel like mangling. It’s a rad distorter for sure, that’s laser-focused on getting the job done. It’s also being sold at an absolute bargain price!

Note that for EUR 25, you can get the 2B Played Creative Bundle, which includes Clipped XT and 2B Filtered. The latter is a multi-filter plug-in with distortion, depth, and LFO modulation. The plug-ins are available in 64-bit VST, VST3, and AU formats for computers running at least Windows 7 or macOS 10.14.
