Musical Entropy Voyage Voyage: A Shimmer Reverb that’s also a Drone

We’ve had a bunch of free shimmer reverbs in our weekly freeware roundups recently, but Voyage Voyage by Musical Entropy is different. Created for the 2026 KVR Developer Challenge, this reverb can be pushed so far to extremes that it becomes an instrument in its own right.

More Information

Like any shimmer reverb, Voyage Voyage produces pitch-shifted reverb tails that send your audio into the stratosphere. These tails then run through a BBD-style delay with a dedicated time control, infusing your sound with the warmth and subtle instability of analog delay units.

But it only takes one look at the intriguingly labeled Chaos and Exciter knobs to realize that it doesn’t end there. Turn up the Chaos knob to introduce modulation, diffusion and resonators to take the reverb tails into uncharted territory. Then, activate Exiter mode to generate signals that re-trigger the delay lines, turning the effect into a one-of-a-kind drone instrument.

Voyage Voyage is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats.

Altitude by nakst used to be a paid plugin, but the developer has now made this powerful software synth available for free. Combining subtractive, sampling, and FM synthesis, Altitude is a true beast of a synth that lets you create an extremely wide spectrum of sounds from basses and pads to effects and sequences.

There are eight generators in total: four analog-style oscillators and four sample layers. With a good selection of waveforms and samples, cross-modulation, various sample playback modes, and more, the oscillator sections alone provide plenty of opportunities for creative sound design. Add to that a pair of versatile filters, a massive modulation engine (5 envelopes, 4 LFOs, 4 math modulators, 2 step modulators), and 17 built-in effects, and you’ve got a synth that leaves nothing to be desired. It’s truly amazing that this is now available for free!

nakst Altitude is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in CLAP and AU formats. There’s also a native version for FL Studio.

ZL Audio ZL Spectrum Equalizer: Free & Open-Source Spectrum EQ

The amazing ZL Equalizer 2 from ZL Audio is without a doubt one of the best free dynamic EQs available, and many consider it a viable free alternative to plugins like FabFilter Pro-Q and the like. So it’s great news that the developer has now released ZL Spectrum Equalizer, adding another, equally powerful EQ with a different philosophy to the line-up.

More Information

ZL Spectrum Equalizer allows for frequency-domain dynamic processing using a high-performance FFT engine. This means that the plugin can track and control resonances across the spectrum, unlike a conventional EQ that’s restricted to fixed frequency bands. ZL Spectrum EQ offers up to 24 linear-phase frequency bands, each with a choice of 9 filter types, 5 stereo modes, and 7 variable slopes. Add to that a full set of dynamic parameters per band, and you’ve got a spectrum EQ that’s second to none in the freeware world. Amazing work!

ZL Spectrum Equalizer is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
