Our three favorite free plug-ins of the week: a high frequency shaper and two open-source emulations of legendary pedals. Check out Air Shelf, ChowPhaser and ChowCentaur!
The free plug-in developers are enjoying a well-deserved vacation. So we've gone through the archives and dug up three classic freeware plug-ins that everyone should know. Check them out here!
An affordable alternative to ooeksound's much-talked-about soothe, DSEQ is a self-adjusting dynamic EQ which removes sibilance, resonances and digital harshness.
The USD 30 dollar equalizer offers pretty much everything you'd expect from a full-featured parametric EQ, including a real-time spectrum analyzer, 12 freely adjustable bands, and analog saturation.
Rewritten from the ground-up, soothe 2 expands its processing engine to all frequencies (not just three bands), gets important attack and speed parameters, and two new processing modes.
What makes DynaQ special is that it offers independent processing of the two frequency ranges, simultaneously. So you can equalize the loud and quiet parts of your track independently. Neat.

SKnote has released the MainEQ dynamic equalizer plug-in. With features like poly grouping of filters and inter-band / inter-track dynamic control, MainEQ looks quite powerful.
Fed up with emails flogging "great deals" on software? This one is worth checking out: Ozone Elements 8 is going for (nearly) nothing, that's USD 129 off. Just spend $1 and give them your data.

Universal Audio's UAD DSP platform brings in some meaty plug-ins with a Korg delay, a classic auto-panner, dynamic EQ, authentic ENGL amp with matched impedance and an expanded vintage reverb.
This isn't another vintage EQ sim like the many flooding the market on a weekly basis. Rather, Waves' new F6 EQ is unabashedly digital and designed as a "surgical" tool for critical frequency correction.

The AE400 'Active' EQ from McDSP receives an update, adding even more control with a crazy amount power. Is the AE600 a case of "too much of a good thing"?
This is the type of plugin I like! Excellent layout and professional features that enable it to be extremely flexible. This is a powerful tool.
