The UK-based manufacturer has built a stellar reputation with the innovative designs of their preamps and interfaces. So the Carnaby 500 follows this path and becomes the EQ you didn’t know you needed.

What sets the Carnaby 500 apart is that it applies harmonic saturation when you boost or cut. This feature is made possible through the ‘saturation-core’ technology, which introduces a certain musical tonality right across the frequency spectrum.

With each band, you have 10 dB of gain to play with and a sweepable frequency control:

  • The high shelf works between 5 and 25 kHz
  • The low shelf operates between 20 and 420 Hz
  • The midrange peaking filter has a fixed Q and works between 200 Hz and 6.2 kHz

However, the Carnaby 500 also has up to 20 dB of input gain. The more gain you add, the more the dynamic response circuitry reacts by introducing additional harmonics.

This means you can create saturation and distortion effects at certain bands when driving the input, or produce cleaner EQ curves at lower gain settings.

The Carnaby’s link functionality is versatile too and allows you to work with stereo EQ pairs in different ways. While the OptoSync function links the controls wirelessly during stereo operation, you can also link modules in different racks with the ⅛” TRS socket.

The fact that you can work with the Carnaby in mono, stereo, or even surround configurations, with intensely coloured or cleaner settings really maximizes its level of utility. From tracking to mixing, when dealing with single tracks, groups, or the master bus during mixdown.

There’s also the option to use it more subtly as a parallel processor, which will be very effective on detailed elements like drums, guitars, and vocals.

Pricing and availability:

The Carnaby 500 EQ will be available soon from your favourite retailer, priced at $499 MSRP.
