Klevgrand Altitude is a real-time vocal processing plugin for pitch correction, harmony generation, MIDI performance control, and modulation.
If you’re not familiar with the Swedish plugin developer Klevgrand, it’s because the company is something of a sleeper that produces a wide range of creative instruments and processors with a unique and often left-field approach. This time, though, Klevgrand has decided to tackle Pop vocal processing, an avenue that has immediate widespread appeal.
Klevgrand Altitude
At the heart of Altitude’s low-latency processing engine is a pitch-correction system that is informed by the formant character of the input vocal signal. The processing is divided into three key areas: Lead, Harmonies, and Play, with a Modulation section that allows you to route three modulators to parameter destinations across the entire plugin.
At the top left of the GUI, there are global pitch and formant controls, but each of the three processing sections allows you to alter the stereo width, use two doubling modes, and a format offset control to differentiate from the global setting. With the smart scale keyboard, you can select a predefined scale, create your own custom one, or control it via MIDI input from a controller or the DAW arranger.
In the harmonies section, you can use three harmony voices that follow the key of the lead section, ensuring that the chords being created are musically consonant. The harmony voices can also be adjusted and sculpted for more synthetic or natural-sounding effects, depending on the style of music you’re working with.
In the Play section, you can use your voice as a software instrument by either playing or arranging MIDI and shaping the response with the attack and release controls. This is particularly interesting when these controls are assigned to your MIDI controller so you can use them expressively while performing.
