Synergy Marshall JCM 800 Preamp: Hot British Tones
The combined flexibility and power of Synergy and Marshall
Fans of the Synergy modular platform can now get their hands on the iconic 80s rock sound with the Synergy Marshall JCM 800 preamp and expand their amp system with classic British amp tones.
Synergy Marshall JCM 800 Preamp
The American manufacturer has once again teamed up with Marshall to develop the legendary JCM-800 sound as a preamp module for their innovative amp system.
Several options are available from their own line, such as the Synergy SYN-20IR Head. A combo version is also available. The Synergy SYN-20IR Combo can also take this preamp, as well as many other preamp modules.
Classic Marshall Tones
The Synergy Marshall JCM 800 preamp features two channels based on the Marshall JCM 800 (2203/2204 Vertical Input).
These are considered the ultimate kings of the JCM-800 signature sound, and they are a lot of fun to play through.
An integrated zero-watt power amplifier and a phase inverter provide an authentic amp feel, while a cathode selector switch on the circuit board allows for adjustable tube response. Inside, three 12AX7 preamp tubes are providing the voice of this classic British amp.
Dual 800s
Operation is simple and, as with the JCM 800, features controls for Preamp, Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, and Volume. Additionally, there’s a High/Low Gain switch and a Bright switch. Since everything is duplicated, the Synergy Marshall JCM 800 Preamp essentially gives you two JCM 800s in one.
My first proper amp was the JCM 800 2203 (100w) as a kid, and it was an absolute beast live. Now you can get those tones for your Synergy setup, which is way more flexible and potentially much lower in output.
Price and Availability
The Synergy Marshall JCM 800 preamp is a logical addition to their preamp lineup. This newcomer, when used with Synergy’s existing mother amps, delivers the JCM 800 sound we all know.
All this for $444/£442/€499 for the module, available now at Thomann.
