PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 and it’s versions
With the release of PreSonus Studio One Pro 7, there is now only one version of the DAW. Studio One Artist and Studio One Prime are now history. The manufacturer wants to make the line-up clearer, which is a good idea!
One DAW for all – this is the slogan PreSonus presents us with with Studio One Pro 7. All virtual instruments, effects and tools are included in the DAW update without any restrictions. These include Audio Batch Converter, Presence XT Editor, Deep Flight One (including a new Extended Soundset) and Lead Architect.
In addition, from version 7 onwards, the DAW will receive major feature updates on a regular basis and at a new pace. PreSonus is talking about four major updates per year – so a new feature update for Studio One Pro 7 is planned for early January 2025. So far, there has been a major update every two years or so, so this is good news.
However, there is a small caveat: from the time you buy Studio One Pro 7, updates are free for one year, after which you will need to upgrade again. However, the manufacturer makes it clear that the DAW licence will not be lost if the ‘upgrade plan’ is not renewed. In other words, you can continue to use the software without restriction, but you will not benefit from any further updates. And if you think an update is worthwhile, you can renew for another year and get new features as they become available.
New pricing
The DAW is now $181 / 195 € / £165 for new customers, with upgrades (from any previous Artist or Pro version) and the aforementioned Upgrade Plan available for $134 / 145 € / £123.
Those who purchased Studio One 6 Pro after 1 August 2024 will receive the latest version, including a 1-year upgrade plan.
A subscription model is still available for $162 / 175 € / £148 for one year or $91 / 98 € / £83 for 6 months.
PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 upgrade and crossgrade is available from Thomann*. To upgrade, you need a version 6 or earlier licence. To crossgrade, you will need an invoice or serial number from a similar DAW.

I just read how Pro Tools clients are tired of the High Price of there Upgrades . I truly hope the Upgrade prices for Presonus 7 and forward remain reasonable and cost efficient for the consumers? However at this point… I look forward to a new future with Presonus Studio One 7.0!!!
Ah, the cursed Bitwig model. Do I? Don’t I? Do I wait for a discount? Do I just move entirely to Live even though I prefer Bitwig’s modulation model just becuase I know what I am getting when I buy it?
Also – surely S1v7 has to have a launcher grid to be The One…
im wondering what this means for Studio One + subscribers. hoping for lower cost. Also, updated MUI protocols for some of the DAW controllers out there
I’m on my 16th year of free updates with FL Studio Professional.
A screenshot shows they’ve added a clip launcher.to V7, which is welcome. The one thing S1 has been good at, bar some exceptions, is delivering user driven features. Bitwig on the other hand, with the same upgrade model, is developer driven and often ignores sensible requests. S1 also pulled the innovative MixFX to sub only, I’d like to see them reverse that unpopular decision in v7.
I also don’t understand why DAWs feel they need to compete with producing synth/instrument plugins. Plenty of 3rd party out there doing a better job, focus on the core DAW.
I enjoy studio one but moving to the subscription base for updates is just another protools. Not everyone does it professionally and may just do it as a hobby. I might go back to Reaper or try FL studio.

Why did I buy a 3k studiolive console AND SOP6 for and additional $399??? Only to find out they now charge $149.00 for a mandatory yearly upgrade. Does presonus understand what the word perpetual means? I think, in fact, iteans they perpetually in my pockets.
