Billy Corgan Drop Z
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman has a new Reverand Guitars Billy Corgan Drop Z model out at NAMM. Allowing him to achieve lower tunings, without any flappy strings. Since the band is currently on a search for a third guitarist, having that extra low-end may help.
This new version of the Z-One has a 26.22-inch scale length, which replaces the standard 25.5-inch on his standard model. Plus, it has an extra two frets to make it 24 frets in total.
Specifications
Key specifications include an alder body, paired with a roasted maple neck which has an oval neck profile. Aesthetically, it follows the same design as Billy’s other signature guitars and includes an aluminium pickguard and a set of low-profile chrome knobs for volume and tone.
Railhammer Z-One
These new 2024 models come equipped with Corgan’s signature Railhammer Z-One pickups as standard. They are the same etched models as in his chambered Z-One signature model.
Two Finishes
The model is launching in Satin White and High Tide Blue finishes this year. Corgan has stated in the past that he prefers the tone of white guitars, so it will be interesting to see if anyone else has bat-like hearing and can make a distinction between these two.
The Drop Z is available via authorised Reverend Guitars dealers this year. The official price is yet to be confirmed. They could be great guitars for anyone who needs more low-end grunts, or bands looking for a third guitarist.
