Plugins That Knock is a new developer backed by acclaimed hip hop producer DECAP, who’s made a name for himself with the Drums That Knock drum sample series. The company’s first plug-in is also named Knock, and it’s designed to do just that: make your drums knock.

To help you achieve the ultimate knocking drum tracks, Knock features a chain of five individual processing modules, each with its own visualizer and a single knob for control. It begins with Punch, a transient shaper that makes your drums more snappy and punchy. After that comes Saturate, which adds harmonic distortion while compensating for any changes in perceived loudness. This module lets you choose from three modes: soft, medium and hard.

The module in the center is especially interesting. According to the developer, Sub detects when a kick drum is present in the raw material and generates a layered sub frequency tone to fortify it and give the kick a deep low end presence. The pitch is adjustable, so you can tune the sub tone to your track. If the detection algorithm works flawlessly, this will be a quick and easy way to add tuned, booming sub frequencies to any drum track.

After that comes Air, which adds a smooth top end to your drum tracks without sounding harsh, the developer claims. Here, you’ve got a choice of two modes (vintage and clean).

The final stage is an adjustable hard or soft clipper. Plugins That Knock says that Clip imparts a warm and aggressive tone to your drums that’s reminiscent of vintage analog gear being pushed into the red.

In addition to the five processing stages, Knock includes a pair of high pass and low pass filters, as well as input and output level controls, an overall tone control and a dry/wet slider.

Price and compatibility

Knock is now available for an introductory price of USD 79. The regular price will be USD 99. Unfortunately, there’s no demo version at this time.

The plug-in requires macOS 10.12 or higher (M1 compatible) or Windows 8.1 or higher (64 bit). It’s available in VST3, AU and AAX formats. Knock includes a selection of factory presets supplied by DECAP.
