A compact ADAT interface and expander for the UltraLite mk5
The new MOTU OctaLite audio interface packs eight preamps into the same-size chassis as the popular UltraLite mk5, for high-quality mobile recording.
When you select an audio interface that offers portability, there is usually some compromise that limits the number of mic preamps you can have. With the design of the OctaLite, MOTU has considered this and provided eight preamps and ADAT I/O to expand your front-end or use the OctaLite as an expander for your UltraLite mk5.
MOTU OctaLite
From the front panel view, the OctaLite looks almost identical to the UltraLite mk5, with a pair of easily accessible XLR combo preamps and the OLED display with channel metering and an overview of your session settings. Because one of its main functions is to work alongside the UltraLite mk5, there isn’t any feature overlap between them.
This means the OctaLite is a 16×12 USB-C interface with 24-bit 192 kHz recording on macOS, Windows, and iOS. Besides the eight digitally controlled transparent low-noise preamps with Hi-Z inputs for guitars, the rear panel is very straightforward, with a pair of TRS outputs and the optical I/O, which provides standard ADAT, SMUX, and S/PDIF connectivity.
Like most MOTU interfaces, the OctaLite can be managed via CueMix 5 with an interface that is both desktop- and touch-friendly for accessing your gain settings, monitoring functions, and routing options. Also, the OctaLite can be rack-mounted with the optional half-rack mounting kit for a single unit or the half-rack coupler for using two units side by side.
This allows you to easily use two OctaLite interfaces together for 16 mic preamps in a 1U rack space or an OctaLite as an expansion racked up alongside your existing UltraLite mk 5 interface.
