PRS is expanding its SE Signature Model range this year with three great-looking guitars that look to be offering something pretty special.

PRS SE Signature Models

The three new models for 2019 are to be called the SE Santana Singlecut Trem, SE Schizoid and SE Paul’s Guitar. What’s interesting is that the three models are all very different in look and character. I think PRS has made some absolutely fantastic SE guitars over the last few years and these additions look like they will keep that trend going this year.

SE Santana Singlecut Trem

Carlos Santana has a gold leaf Private Stock PRS (it’s one of his favourite guitars, apparently), which forms the basis for this new SE version. But why a version of that particular guitar? According to PRS, the idea for this model came when Santana heard the 2018 Paul’s Guitar TCI pickups and requested a set with no coil taps. This guitar has a version of those pickups which PRS dubs the TCI “S” pickups. PRS and Santana then decided to make an SE version of the Private Stock guitar incorporating the TCI S. To cut a long story short: they should be perfect for smooth Santana-esque guitar tones.

Shorter scale and 24 frets!

This model has a  24.5” scale length, 24 frets and a PRS tremolo bridge all loaded onto a mahogany-bodied guitar. It has a simple two-knob control layout: one Volume, one Tone and a three-way switch.

The neck is also mahogany and has a rosewood fretboard with bird inlays. Mimicking Santana’s Private Stock guitar, this body has a gold finish that looks the part. This could be a pretty awesome guitar in the right hands and should sound the part, too.

SE Schizoid

This guitar really, really stands out! It’s emblazoned with the album artwork from King Crimson’s ‘In The Court Of The Crimson King’ album. A seminal album and one I grew up with as a child…

A Crimson Wonder

Made for Crimson’s lead singer and guitarist Jakko Jakszy, this is being produced as a limited edition of 1000 guitars worldwide. When he joined the band he originally chose a PRS Custom 24 Piezo covered with the “Schizoid Man” artwork. This model is based upon that guitar.

This is essentially a Custom 24 with a very cool paint job, perfect for lovers of 21st Schizoid Man perhaps? Just check out the video below, it looks really good. Even if you don’t fancy buying one, this video is well worth a watch.

SE Paul’s Guitar

Last of the three is the new SE Paul’s Guitar. This new model will be available in Amber, Aqua and Fire Red. It comes with a carved figured maple top on a mahogany body, 25″ scale length Wide Fat mahogany neck and a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets.

Stoptail & Coil Taps

This one has a PRS Stoptail bridge with brass inserts and also a unique coil tap feature via two mini switches. These are nestled between the single Volume and Tone controls of the guitar and should give you additional (and hopefully useful) tones to play with. We have the same TCI “S” pickups as the new Santana model above, so expect something special with this guitar.

Again, you really should check out the video below on this one, as it covers a lot of ground. A lovely-looking guitar that sounds very sweet indeed, judging by the demo.
