More Information

The Monster Maker looks slightly terrifying, but it’s actually a whole lot of fun – especially if you’re in the mood for dark, Memphis-inspired beats. And once you get the hang of it, it’s surprising what this thing can do. You get ten tracks: eight for drums and 808s, one for keys and loops, and one for chopped vocal samples. That’s right, you can actually record your own morbid Halloween thoughts in your browser, chop ‘em up, and run them through a bunch of effects.

The sequencer is quite capable and offers both X0X-style step sequencing and a piano roll editor. You can draw melodies with your mouse, or use the Horror Keys to play them live. There’s even a song mode that lets you arrange all your most terrifying patterns in a sequence. You can also add sequenced glitch FX, such as Filter, Stutter, Tape Stop, and Crush. And when you’re done, just hit Render to export a WAV file.

The Monster Maker comes with a good selection of sounds, but you can also load your own samples. The browser-based beat studio also responds to external MIDI messages and can sync to your DAW. By the time you’ve cooked up a few Halloween beats, you might find that this thing is so much fun that you want to keep it around as a production tool!

The Monster Maker runs in Chrome, Edge or Brave on your desktop computer. Have fun!
