Hollow-bodied offsets, anyone? Moniker Guitars from Austin TX have a new line of offset guitars called The Rival Series. and each guitar is built from a main guitar body that’s been heavily routed and then customised with an acrylic top plate. This unique design looks will definitely make these lightweight guitars stand out from the crowd.
The Rival Series is a range of offset guitars with a bolt-on neck that seem to be following Leo Fender’s design ethos of offering a number of variations that are easily built and cheaper to manufacture in bulk.
What makes them really stand out for me is their heavily routed/chambered main body, which is made from North American maple. Because of this unique design it is lightweight and probably very resonant. There are also variations available for your to pick the options you want, including the main ‘pick guard’ or ‘scratch plate, which they call the faceplate.
Pickups & Faceplates
The options available include a number of different pickup configurations to choose from. Moniker use Seymour Duncan pickups for their guitars. You can also select from their colour palette for the main pick guard, which is offered in white, black, grey, peach, sea foam green or cream. They also match the headstock colour to your chosen main body faceplate colour for you.
The North American hard maple neck is a Soft-C shape, with a measurement of 1 and 11/16 inches at the nut, made from GraphTech graphite. They are all 24.75″ scale length and have medium jumbo stainless steel frets.
The guitars are being launched at a special event in Austin Texas on 3 September and so hopefully the massive flooding devastating parts of Texas won’t affect the release party. Currently, they can be pre-ordered, and the introductory price is very enticing. If you are in the market for a unique, cool-looking offset guitar, then these are one for you to check out. The design, of course, will probably divide opinion, but I personally really like it.
