Midweek Modular: Ultra Perc, Triphase Oscillator, TAZM-O and Farbfilter

This week SSF has given us some ultimate percussion; we’ve swum in the waters of the triphase oscillator, had fun with Farbfilters and tickled FM in the TAZM-O.
Midweek Modular
Here are the new modules arriving on the modular scene this week that caught my attention.
Steady State Fate Entity Ultra Perc
A new module in the Entity range from SSF focuses on analogue percussive sounds. It has a full synthesizer voice inside ranging from a twin resonant core signal generator with detuning and spectral isolation, dynamics control over the body and noise, through to a multimode filter and numerous envelopes.
If that wasn’t enough, it will also process external signals, routing through the twin peaks of the noise and body filters. And then there’s the wavefolder and FM decay envelope, independent noise triggering and a body-derived duck output.
The result is a packed and stacked module of percussive and filtering sounds. Checkout DivKids video below for the full demo.

New Systems Instruments Triphase Oscillator
The Triphase Oscillator is a take on the Supersaw. The idea is to get three sawtooth waveforms and let you adjust the phase individually. This creates that gorgeously gooey sound of beating and detuned waveforms that defines the supersaw sound.
The oscillator as a whole has pitch and sync inputs and an attenuated FM input. Each phased waveform has a level control to give you numerous timbral options at the mix output. They also have their own outputs.
I’m enjoying how the simplicity of this oscillator resonates with me. You undoubtedly know exactly what to do with it, and you’ll be enjoying the movement of in and out-of-phase harmonics completely intuitively. It also looks great.

Busy Circuits TAZM-O
A solid-looking oscillator from Busy Circuits that offers through-zero FM modulation. This means that if you modulate the FM input with another oscillator, the resulting tones will be more musical and less dissonant. The FM index can be set and also modulated, which makes things very interesting.
Other features include a wave shaping output that lets you sweep from triangle to sawtooth to square and pulse wave. The saw and sine waves get dedicated outputs as do two square wave sub oscillators. Shape can also be modulated externally. TAZM-O also has sync and can be switched into being an LFO if you need it to be.

Making Sound Machines Farbfilter
Announced ahead of Superbooth are four modules from Making Sound Machines. They are designed to be simple and effective sound colouring modules of both East and West Coast varieties.
- Farbfilter: Lowpass ladder filter with drive.
- Farb Highpass: Highpass ladder filter with Tilt EQ.
- Farbfolder: Analogue wavefolder.
- Farbshaper: Waveshaping sine waves into saw waves.
These look rather splendid, and I definitely applaud the simplicity; no manual required just drop them into your patch. Also these will be available as super easy kits and you can build one at Superbooth at the Making Sound Machines workshop.
