Like the sound someone makes when falling into a vat of console chips the AAAPPPCCC is a fabulous Kosmo synthesizer project from Sam Battle of Look Mum No Computer. It originally emerged a couple of years ago with the release of Sam’s album “These Songs are Obsolete” but it has been refreshed with a new front panel and new artwork.

For £22 you can pick up the front panel and PCB and Sam says the project is made from easy-to-find components and so is a great introduction to component hunting and soldering for beginners.

The synth is based on the Atari Punk Console which uses two 555 timer ICs to generate a pulse wave with control over frequency and volume. The AAAPPPCCC uses three lots of this circuit and so six 555 ICs which all modulate and reset each other in interesting ways. It sounds ridiculously fun.
