What a week for Korg news! Coming hot on the heels of images allegedly showing the upcoming Korg opsix, we now hear of exciting new products Korg has planned for release: the SQ-64 Sequencer and ARP 2600 Mini! Here’s what we know so far.

SQ-64 Sequencer

While some may be instantly drawn towards the ARP 2600 in what looks like a nice compact form factor, in the middle of the image you can see a very interesting-looking sequencer. The name is hard to read, but SQ-64 would seem to indicate the number of steps. There are a lot of connections on the back, suggesting far more than just three tracks, each with 64 steps. The pads can also be used for playing. The device is equipped with at least three tracks. A fourth track could be used to adjust the timing. It looks like this unit will have 8 drum outputs, outputting some steps directly. There’s also a collection of controls for Start/Stop, Reset and clock in- and outputs. A group of three connectors also suggests that the SQ-64 is equipped with MIDI (2x Out, 1x In) and probably also with USB. An arpeggiator is also built in and the device has 8 voices and understands chords.

ARP 2600 mini

This mini version of the ARP 2600 seems to have retained some features of the bigger version, like the I/O. Normally, Korg doesn’t show fictitious products in its pictures, so we have to assume that this confirms the long-standing rumours of an upcoming ARP 2600 mini. Given that the large ARP 2600 was sold out within a few hours, it’ll be interesting to see in what kind of quantities Korg is going to make this new mini version available.

More Information

With all this cool gear in the pipeline, it looks like Korg is going to make quite a spash in the coming months. We’ll keep you up to date on specs, prices and availability as soon as we know more.
