What initially seemed like a limited-edition model that sold out quickly is now available for everyone! The Keeley Tube Drive is now available in two new versions. You get a rich tube sound combined with Keeley’s Super Phat Mod in a single pedal. And a limited edition with an old Philips tube!
Keeley Tube Drive
High-voltage hazard! The Keeley Tube Drive generates a mighty 168 volts internally, with over 100 volts at the anode. This 12AX7 tube actually glows from high voltage! But something that’s so fully analog also delivers a fully analog response. You have to wait a good ten seconds after turning it on before the Keeley Tube Drive really kicks into gear.
But if you prefer, you can choose between tube, transistor, or both. There’s a separate footswitch and dedicated controls for each vibe. On the solid-state side you get the legendary Super Phat Mod, which Keeley released as a standalone pedal a good ten years ago, it’s a Blues Driver with a sound all its own.
True or Buffered
If you’re a tone chaser, you’ll be especially pleased with two features: You can decide between true bypass and buffered bypass (Keeley Silent), and you can swap the order: from Drive to Tube or Tube to Drive, just by holding down the Drive footswitch for two seconds. And if you hold down the Tube footswitch for the same length, you change the buffer mode.
So, in terms of sound, you get a wide range of sonic options, from gentle and warm to brutally distorted. And if you want to dive even deeper (or are already deep into it), you can also swap out the tube: the socket accepts 12AT7, 12AU7, and 12AY7 tubes as well.
Speaking of tubes: The black version of the pedal features a Keeley-made 12AX7. That’s the standard model. But there’s also (see below) a strictly limited-edition gold version with a 1987 Philips JAN 12AT7WC tube with only 300 being made worldwide. If you integrate the pedal into a larger pedalboard setup, you can also control it remotely via a switcher using the remote input.
