Chinese pedal maker Joyo has announced the R-09 Vision, an affordable dual-channel modulation pedal with 18 effects onboard. And it comes in at under $90. That makes it probably one of the best-specified budget modulation pedals around.
Joyo R-09 Vision
Joyo has released a ton of budget pedals lately, including the R-02 TaiChi drive, the R-07 Aquarius delay/looper and the R-08 cab box IR loader, to name but a few. This new dual-channel modulation pedal from Joyo has a serious amount of modulation effects available. There are phasers, flangers, chorus, tremolo and more, making it a Swiss Army knife of a modulation pedal.
Each of the two effect channels has independent SPEED/RATE, CONTROL and DEPTH/MIX knobs. You select the order of the two channels with the three-position toggle switch. So there’s a lot of control from a relatively simple layout.
The effects are:
- Channel A: MOD-PH, CHO, ST-PH, FLG, RING, ROT, TREM, LQD-PH, TRI-CH
- Channel B: OPT-TRM, SM-CH, LOW-BIT, AT-WAH, ANLG-FL, PHASE, OCTA, STUT, VIBRA.
The R-09 Vision has independent tap tempo controls that you access by holding down the relevant footswitch and setting your tempo. And you also get stereo inputs and outputs, plus Joyo’s ambience LED lights.
Now, a lot of players want warmth and an analogue feel as well as programmability when it comes to modulation. OK, so those criteria separate the R-09 Vision from, say, a Strymon Mobius pedal. But at a fraction of the cost, the Joyo pedal makes for a compelling offer.
The pedal is true-bypass and runs via a centre-negative 9-Volt power supply. No battery use here, but that is to be expected with this type of modulation effects pedal. It’ll need a bit more juice than a battery can provide. Make sure you check out the official demo video below to hear it in action.
