Joyo has just announced the Gem Box III, a multi-fx box with 61 preamp emulations, a total of 157 effects and it even has IR loading. At this price it might just succeed in taking some market share from more established brands in this segment…

On top of all those effects and preamp models, the Gem Box III has 300 preset tones, plus 26 impulse responses already loaded. But it also has has the ability to load your IRs, too. The effects are arranged in nine effects modules, which are then adjusted via nine individual buttons. The internal effects chain can be re-ordered.

Looper

The unit has a built-in 52-second looper and a drum machine with 40 drum patterns, plus 10 metronome rhythms for practise use. Joyo’s Studio software is included too, letting you upload new amp models to the Gem Box III, That makes for a flexible ‘all-in-one’ solution for guitar players.

With two XLR outputs as well as USB recording it should be suitable for both live and recording duties. There’s also a headphone output, a stereo pair of mono jack outputs, a mini jack Aux In and an Expression output as well.

Earlier this week saw the announcement of the new Fractal Audio FM3, adding to the wealth of existing products in this category like the Mooer GE 200, Line 6 Helix Stomp, BOSS GT 1000 or the Headrush board, to name but a few. Now comes the Joyo Gem Box III. The competition is certainly heating up in the multi-fx pedal market! Joyo’s new Box is retailing at a competitive price of USD 366, undercuting most of the competition.

In the end, it will all come down to the sound and build quality. I think this is where it will struggle head to head products like the Line 6 Helix range. But at this super-low price you know it will sell well. Perhaps it will punch well above its weight.

RRP – USD 366
