It’s taken IO Instruments a long time to get the Kalyke Dual Function Generator to the shops. However, you can now enjoy this multi-functional modulation machine.
It’s got a lot of knobs and patch points for a Eurorack module with two functions. Kalyke is both an LFO and an ADSR but what makes it so full of functionality? The LFO section contains a fully controllable and morphable variable waveform oscillator. Moving from pulse, through to sine wave, ramp and triangle with the rate of spin dictated by knob or CV. It also has a Sample & Hold mode. The fun factor of this LFO is that you can set it to repeat a specified number of times rather than just endlessly looping, although it will do that too. You can set it to repeat itself 1-14 times or just send it off looping forever.
The ADSR finds itself on 4 rather nice and chunky faders that define the shape of the envelope with a linear or exponential response. This has lots of tricks up its sleeve. It can ratchet the Attack stage up 16 times which I’ve not seen on an envelope before, it can loop and it can freeze where all the settings are safe from accidental movement. There’s a manual trigger that also resets the LFO and you get a trigger output after the Attack and the Decay stage. All the envelope stages are CV controllable.
Additional fun can be had by mixing the ADSR with the LFO and there’s a knob to help you do that. There are positive and negative outputs of both the ADSR and the LFO.
At €159 it’s a decent price for an interesting module of modulation. The colour scheme is a little on the unusual side but it will definitely stand out in your rack.
