The new Ibanez Pentatone Preamp is a pedal that offers distortion, with plenty of gain on tap along with a five-band parametric EQ. This all adds up to a neat way to sculpt your guitar tone.
Ibanez Pentatone Preamp
This Ibanez Pentatone Preamp is part of the company’s 2023 new product launch that includes the new Axe Design Lab series of guitars. This all-in-one pedal, distortion, preamp and 5-band EQ is designed to be a Swiss Army knife of guitar tones in one stompbox. The Pentatone’s five-level sliders each light up and cover -10 to +10 dB of range.
There are also plenty of other controls to tweak your sound with and so it has plenty to play with.
Above the 5 main sliders, it also has a basic two-band EQ with Treble and Bass controls. Along with standard Gain and Level knobs. Plus, there is a Bright toggle switch to add more highs if required and another toggle switch is used to engage the onboard noise gate.
It also sports Pre Boost and Post Boost control knobs, which give you a load of control over your gain stages.
The Post Boost function is assigned to one of the footswitches. Whilst the Pre Boost is engaged by its own dedicated toggle switch. Ibanez also sells a separate IFS2L footswitch which can also be assigned to the Pre Boost, which means you could expand the functionality if you need it. The same input can also be used to give the IFS2L control over the pedal’s five-band EQ section as well.
It is certainly a preamp with a lot of control over your drive and distortion tone, which I guess could be great for anyone that needs a compact solution for their guitar rig.
