Gibson Mike Ness 1976 Les Paul Deluxe

The new Gibson Mike Ness 1976 Les Paul Deluxe comes with a Goldtop finish which, according to the website, “has been expertly aged by the artisans of the Murphy Lab to match Mike’s original”. And yes, they have even included the Orange County, Clay Smith Cams Mr. Horsepower, and I Voted stickers.

Why not buy a Norlin?

I do own a Norlin LP and I do love them. But I could literally go out today and buy an original ’70s Les Paul Deluxe for less than half the price of this recreation.  Gibson has specified this one with the age appropriate three-piece maple neck, a 2-piece plain maple top, and a mahogany/maple/mahogany ‘pancake’ back.

Fans & Collectors

I’m really not convinced that Murphy ageing and some stickers warrants this hefty price tag, so this one has to be for fans and collectors. Especially, as the original stock mini humbuckers the guitars would have shipped with in the ’70s have been replaced by P-90s, which Mike prefers in his personal guitar.

As I said earlier, I do like a ’70s Gibson, but if it was me, I would look for an original and modify it myself. Thankfully, I’m not the target audience for this, so I don’t have to do this. But if you are a fan, then you will need deep pockets to grab one of these aged Goldtop rockers!

RRP – USD 8999

  1. Oscar Agulhas says:

Hi. I own an Ibanez 2350G guitar which my father bought in 1972 in it’s original hardcase & condition. Connect me with a buyer. I want to sell it.
