To give you a taster of the full-on bx_rockrack V3 guitar amp simulator Brainworx have released a free “Player” version. It features all the same amp models but none of the controls work.

Gee whiz that’s an annoying way to name a plug-in. The Player comes with all 8 amp models of the full version covering the clean and crunch channels of the Marshall JCM 800 2210, ENGL 530, Mesa Boogie Rect-O-Verb and Metal BX 666 (that’s a Brainworx designed amp). They’ve put together 26 presets to give a lot of tone to play with. And it sounds pretty darn good to me. The selection of presets is very usable and quite diverse, there’s even a bass amp, synth and drum patch in there. The controls are the height of frustration because every time you reach out to adjust something you get an “access denied” type message come up suggesting that you need to buy the full version. But once you get over the fact that those knobs are not for you it’s a very enjoyable plug-in.
