The new Framus Talisman William Duvall Signature model has just been released and it’s very pretty! And it looks like it can deliver some cool vintage vibe and classic tones, as well. It comes in two distinct varieties, and although neither version is exactly cheap, both are very well specified and so you can see where the money is going.

Framus Talisman William Duvall Signature

Framus featured the William DuVall Talisman Signature Guitar as a highlight at the Winter NAMM Show 2018. It is available both as a Custom Shop Masterbuilt which is handcrafted in Germany and as a Pro Series Teambuilt, also made in Germany.

Alice In Chains

William DuVall is an American musician who is best known as the lead singer of Alice in Chains. He is the co-founder, lead singer, guitarist and writer of the band Comes with the Fall.

Both guitars look very impressive with their mahogany body and flamed maple tops and quilted maple inserts. However, you also have to dig deep into your wallet, as neither guitar is particularly cheap. But you are getting some great craftsmanship and the Masterbuilt edition looks pretty stunning.

The guitars have a contoured mahogany body with AAA Flamed Maple top and Quilted Maple inserts with a set mahogany neck
that has a Tigerstripe ebony fretboard with Framus custom fingerboard inlays and handy illuminated side fingerboard markings. The neck is fitted with 22 extra high, IFT (Invisible Fretwork Technology) Plek Fretwork perfectly dressed Jumbo nickel-silver frets with rounded edges for smooth bends and comfort. It comes fitted with a set of GraphTech Ratio Locking Tuners with ‘Wooden Wings’ to keep everything in tune.

The pickups mounted here are a pair of Seymour Duncan APH-1 (Neck) and SH-11 (Bridge) pickups, each with split-coil function. The bridge is a very traditional TonePros Tune-o-Matic unit, so expect great sustain along with solid intonation and tuning. Framus have also fitted these instruments with a set of Warwick strap locks. The finishes on the Masterbuilt versions are either a Natural Oil, coloured Transparent Satin or High Polish finish, with Chrome Black or Gold hardware.

The Team Built version comes in Nirvana Black Transparent High Polish finish and is listed with gold hardware (though the site also shows chrome hardware in some images) and essentially has the same hardware as the Masterbuilt edition, just AA flamed maple instead of AAA. I would imagine they just use slightly nicer woods on the Masterbuilt and take a little more time building them which adds to the cost.

Both versions look pretty stunning, though maybe a little too ‘bling’ for my own personal taste. But no doubt both are quality, high-spec guitars.

RRP – Masterbuilt EUR 4999 – Comes with Framus User Kit, a high-quality, hand-made RockBag leather gig bag and an individually issued certificate of authenticity.

Team built Edition EUR -3588 – Comes with a high-quality Starline RockBag
