The Finhol Auto Bass Looper is a guitar pedal which creates a ‘bass loop’ and so tries to replicate what a four-string bass player would do, just without the hassle of having to deal with another musician. Manufacturing their products in Germany, Finhol make a number of different accompaniment pedals as well as more traditional guitar effects pedals. This, however, is something new and could be useful for solo artists, buskers or just for trying out your new song ideas.

The idea is an interesting one and is based on playing a chord sequence into the pedal, which then works out the accompanying bass line for you. The unit is designed to be ‘intelligent’ and therefore should give you a bass line that makes sense. You need to tap the footswitch four times to set up the tempo or loop and then the recording starts, after this the bass note is then added to the chord sequence.

It has a simple control layout with two foot switches and a single pot for the guitar level. The light on the front panel is a two-colour red and green LED and is used to indicate when the pedal is recording or playing back the bass samples. The bass samples themselves are all taken from a Fender Jazz Bass, which should be a good all-round bass tone for many different styles of music.

The pedal features an input as well as outputs for both the guitar and the bass samples separately. It also features a Trigger Sync jack as well. The trigger is used to set up a click or metronome pulse for either another rhythm device or to send a click to a drummer.

Each unit comes with the power supply included in the price.

RRP EUR €199
