Many older players will recognise these Fender Japan International Color Stratocaster models. As this limited edition range is based on the original early ’80s release from Fender USA. Original models are still highly collectable and this new Japanese-made offering sticks closely to the original formula. However, they are also offering a rosewood fretboard version of the models, whereas the originals were all maple.

Bold Colours

Original colours are on offer including Capri Orange, Morroco Red, Maui Blue, Sahara Taupe and Monaco Yellow. Each comes with a three-ply eggshell white pickguard, black single-coil pickup covers, black plastic control knobs, a black switch tip and a black tremolo bar tip. This makes this release look just like the original run.

Differences?

However, unlike the original release the Capri Orange and Morocco Red are available with either rosewood or maple fretboards, whereas the originals would have been maple. Apart from this minor update, they are pretty close to the original run. Each model comes with a U-shaped maple neck with a bone nut and 21 frets, and either black or white dot inlays depending on the fretboard type.

Other differences are that these reissues all have a basswood body, whereas the original USA run is all ash bodiedd Strats.

Hardware

These Strats are all powered by a set of  Vintage-Style Single-Coil Strat pickups, wired with a 5-way blade switch and the usual volume,  tone, and tone control layout for a Stratocaster. Key features include the oversized headstock, a bullet truss rod, a set of original Fender Vintage “F” Stamped tuners and the three-bolt neck plate, plus a six-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge.

Limited Edition

These models are all exclusive to the Japanese market and with limited availability for this year only. These will no doubt appeal to collectors and I suspect we may see a few sneak out of Japan.
